Music

Music has been a huge part of my life all the way back into childhood. If it weren’t for music, I would not have met my wife since we originally met in band. My job in the Army was trombone player.

My relationship with music can be broken into two major categories: performance and composition. I play a huge number of instruments but the reason I can play them is because I wanted to know how to write for them, and then the only way for anyone to hear my music was for me to be able to perform it myself.

Limiting myself to only instruments I have played in a public performance of any kind, I can play (in descending order of skill): trombone, piano, saxophone, bass, guitar,  euphonium, trumpet, tuba, and drums. I know how to play others, but I’ve never done so in public. I have also conducted small and large ensembles at public concerts, so there’s that too.

At present, I am in two bands. The first is the T-Town Jazz Band in which I play trombone, am one of the conductors/leaders, and I frequently arrange and composes music for it. The other (others) is a series of cover bands led by “Gusto Dave” Jackson. Gusto’s Rockin’ Jazz Brats is where it started in which I arrange all the horn parts and play trombone, piano, saxophone, bass, and some vocals. Then there’s Jumpin’ Jack Sax where you just remove the trombone and arranger jobs, but I primarily play saxophone and piano. And then, Dave and I play in a duo where I primarily am on piano while he plays guitar.

On the composition side, I’ve been writing since high school, and I’ve got hundreds of compositions to my name for every ensemble type I’ve ever played in. Many of them can be found using the Sheet Music Plus link in the footer. Just as many have versions on YouTube. I’ll try to link as many as I can from the composition page when it is completed, but not everything has been performed and not every performance is online.

So, eventually, off this page will be links to pages that showcase a lot of performance and a lot of compositions.
